YOUTH GROUP
The Walmer Bath project originated in January 2011. This project aims to combat neglect of babies by educating new mothers on how to bath their children as well as provide a facility if new mothers, due to circumstances, do not have the equipment or cleaning aids to care for their babies. If children, due to neglect or abuse, are removed by the social workers, they are also bathed, fed and dressed in clean clothes before they are taken to a place of Temporary Safe Care.
This programme provides an After Care Service to 30 children of Walmer Primary who need assistance with their school work as their circumstances are not conducive to their developmental needs. The After Care Facility is a renovated container and is situated next to our Walmer office. The children are provided with a meal each day and then they are assisted with their school work. Other activities for instance crafts, life skill training and sport are also incorporated within the programme to stimulate and promote the development of the children.
During the year, we collect clothes, shoes and food and distribute them among vulnerable families whom are unemployed and unable to sustain a living. We aim to assist at least 30 families per month, but currently our organization is in dire need of donations in order to sustain this service to the community.

Gijs Tabak, Nikki Hulst and Oliver Gerard, social work students form Holland, recently completed their Internship at the ACVV PE Suid, Walmer Office. The students assisted the two social workers in Walmer Township with case work, group work as well as community work, e.g. home visits, trips to various institutions, programmes to the Youth Group and After Care and monitoring of crèches. It was a pleasure to accommodate them within our organization and we will miss them!
Currently the ACVV PE Suid mentors 12 crèches within the Walmer community. These crèches are assisted with the registration process of their crèche, education of the caregivers, donations and fundraising. The crèches are visited weekly to monitor the general circumstances of the children and are also included within our annual Child Protection Week programme.

SEEMEEU PRE-PRIMARY
Buysilekhaya is a programme which originated as a feeding scheme for the children and families who provided for themselves by residing on Arlington Tip. Children were enrolled for school and received stationary as well as school uniform. Currently we have approximately 120 children within this programme. These children attend the soup kitchen daily and the ACVV staff and volunteers conduct monthly visits to these families in order to monitor their circumstances. Clothes, toys and food parcels are also collected for these children and families as part of our Winterhoop and Emergency relief programme.
This project is attended by 15 older persons who meet twice per week. They practice a variety of skills inclusive of needle work and beading. Articles made are then sold to the community in order to generate in income for the ladies as well as sustain the project. The ACVV PE Suid assist where possible with the provision of for example needles, sewing machines, wool and beads.
